Maple Crest

Q: What is Maple Crest?
A:
An active community for older adults consisting of Assisted Living apartments, independent apartments and modern, spacious duplex homes.  Maple Crest opened in 1999 as part of Mennonite Memorial Home to provide housing options for independent older adults.  Maple Crest, together with Mennonite Memorial Home and Mennonite Home Health, make up Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio.

Q: Is there an age requirement for living at Maple Crest?
A:
Yes. All of our community members must be 55 years of age or older at the time they move in.

Q: Where is Maple Crest located?
A: We are located less than 20 minutes from Lima or Findlay at 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton, OH 45817.

Q: Do you have any apartments or duplexes available at this time?
A:
Availability changes frequently.  Please call (419) 358-7654 for availability and to inquire about being placed on our no obligation waiting list.

Q: How active of a community is Maple Crest?
A:
We commonly tell prospective residents that they can be as busy or bored as they want to be!  We have a full time Activities Coordinator that plans our activities, but we also have many resident groups that meet on their own as well.  To help you stay healthy and active, we have a fitness room, pool, spa, raised bed gardens, and walking paths around our campus.  The best part is that you can always just close your door if you want some quiet, relaxing time for yourself.

Q: Do you rent or buy your apartments and duplexes?
A:
We offer two different financing options, neither of which creates a situation where you have to “buy” a unit.  One is a monthly rental option.  The second is called a Life Use Fee.  There is a 6 month initial commitment for either option.  Then the commitment is a month-to-month lease thereafter.  There are no differences in services by choosing either option.  No matter which option you choose, you never have to worry about selling your new home if you transition between areas of our campus or move away from Maple Crest.  Please contact us for more information on either option.

Q: What is a Life Use Fee?
A:
A Life Use Fee is a one time, larger payment that lowers your monthly costs.  A percentage of the Life Use Fee is refunded back to you at the time you move out of your new home.  Choosing between rental and Life Use Fee options is usually based on a person’s age, assets, income, and personal situation.  We would be happy to help you determine what may be the best fit for you.

Q: Does Maple Crest Assisted Living accept Veteran’s Administration benefits?
A:
Yes.  Veterans, spouses, or widows/widowers of veterans may qualify to receive financial assistance from the Veteran’s Administration.  Currently, veterans may be eligible to receive up to $1,664 a month, and widows/widowers may receive up to $1,055. This benefit is only available to our Assisted Living area.  There are qualifying factors, so please contact us for information on how to get started investigating these benefits.

Q: Is Maple Crest approved to participate in the Medicaid Waiver program for Assisted Living?
A:
No; however, Assisted Living at our sister facility, Mennonite Memorial Home (MMH) is Medicaid Waiver approved.  Please contact MMH at (419) 358-1015 for more details.

Q: Will my long-term care insurance policy pay toward Assisted Living?
A:
Many long-term care policies will pay toward Assisted Living depending on services being received.  You will need to check with the company holding your policy to see if your policy would apply to Assisted Living and what qualifying factors there may be.

Q: Do you have a nurse on site 24 hours a day?
A:
No. We have a licensed nurse on-call 24 hours a day and Resident Assistants on site 24 hours a day.  Mennonite Home Health nurses visit Assisted Living residents Monday through Friday to address any needs.

Q: Do Independent Living residents have access to the Nurse in Assisted Living?
A:
Our Mennonite Home Health nurses are available to Independent Living residents at our weekly well-being clinics as well as through privately scheduled Home Health visits.

Q: Do Assisted Living residents have access to our free scheduled transportation?
A:
Yes.  Assisted Living residents may take advantage of in-town or out-of-town transportation or scheduled Activities trips in our Town Car or bus driven by our staff.  A charge may apply for multiple, regularly scheduled out-of-town appointments.

Q: Do Independent Living residents have access to our free scheduled transportation?
A:
Yes.  Independent residents may take part in any in-town transportation or scheduled Activities trips in our Town Car or bus driven by our staff.  Additional charges may apply for out-of-town transportation.

Q: Are pets permitted?
A: Yes.  There are guidelines related to size and type of pet permitted and also a required refundable pet deposit.  Please contact us for more information.

Q: How do I know what area that I or my loved one would be best suited for?
A: When you come to visit Maple Crest, our staff will help determine which area will best suit your or your loved one’s needs.

Duplexes are for active people who aren’t looking for a lot of staff assistance other than maintenance. Duplex homes are freestanding 2-3 bedroom, 2 bath, 1-2 car attached garage homes, similar to condominiums. You can come and go as you please without worrying about lawn care or interior/exterior maintenance - and that's just the beginning of the benefits of our duplexes!

Independent Living apartments in our main buiding, on the other hand, are for active people who are looking for a more social environment and some assistance with meals, housekeeping, and other tasks. Our 1 and 2 bedroom apartments are bright, spacious, and inviting.

Our Assisted Living area is more suitable for active people needing assistance with things like meals, laundry, medication reminders, and bathing/dressing assistance.  We have a selection of spacious 1 bedroom and Studio apartments to choose from in the Assisted Living area.
